OUR HISTORY

ABOUT US
The Epilepsy Association of the Maritimes began in 1980 with a small group of people who met on a regular basis in living rooms of those involved, and two who were involved from the very beginning were Drs. Peter and Carol Camfield. The Association was created to provide education and support for those living with epilepsy and their families. Almost forty years later, our priorities continue to be education, support and advocacy. In 2019, we changed our legal name to Epilepsy Association of the Maritimes to better reflect the communities and provinces we serve. We also provide scholarships and bursaries for those pursuing post secondary education in the Maritimes; support Research and run our Project HOPE (Health of Persons with Epilepsy) Program. This program was recognized as the number one program in the EISAI Human Health Care Awards designed to provide education and resources to those living with Epilepsy with Art Therapy, Life Skills and Social Activities designed specifically for this Program in all of the Americas and again in the global market in Tokyo, Japan.
