Funding Sources for Maritimes Provinces Supporting Travel to Access Medical Care

Traveling outside of your home community to a medical appointment or for admittance into a hospital might create an expected expense. Families and individuals can contact local community organizations such as Rotary, Lions, or Elks Clubs and Shriners for financial assistance.

EPILEPSY ASSOCIATION OF THE MARITIMES:

Funds are available in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia (Hayleys Fund) for individuals and families affected by epilepsy to assist with medical expenses. Hayley’s Fund provides direct support to individuals and families affected by epilepsy, helping them navigate the unexpected costs that come with a diagnosis. Named after Hayley, an inspiring little warrior, we know that living with epilepsy comes with challenges and believe that financial strain shouldn’t be one of them.

Whether it’s covering essential expenses or offering relief in times of need, these supports may include gas cards for transportation, money for hotel stays, help covering medical expenses, and more. This fund ensures that no one has to face these challenges alone.

Please note it can take 1-2 weeks for applications for EAM funds to go through processing.

PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE:

The Maritime Provinces and hospital fundraising foundations each offer options for financial assistance to offset travel expenses incurred for receiving medical care. Examples include a discounted parking pass, gas gift cards, or funding a monthly rental or mortgage payment.
